What is the OGP?

A two-year Programme, designed to equip participating students (Apprentices) with useful skills and experience in several aspects of the real workings of a marine charity. Apprentices spend their first year building a relationship with their Partner NGO remotely, whilst undertaking OGP training, before visiting their Partner to carry out an in-situ placement during their second year.

OCEAN GIANTS PROGRAMME

YEAR 1

Alongside their second UoP year studies, Apprentices get access to specialist training with Manta Trust staff and NGO Partners, in vital elements of charity management and operations such as fundraising, media and communications and project management.

Over the year, Apprentices get to know their NGO Partner through online research, regular video calls and by taking on remote tasks set by their Partner.

Following training in fundraising, Apprentices will be expected to work together to raise as many donations as they can for their Partner NGOs over the year. The Manta Trust will match the funds raised for Partners by the end of June (with a cap at £1000 per Apprentice) in grant funding for the Apprentices to use towards their placements.

OCEAN GIANTS PROGRAMME

YEAR 2

During their third UoP year, Apprentices will get the opportunity to carry out an in-situ placement with their NGO Partner for one to three months, during which they get involved with hands on research and conservation efforts in the field.

Throughout the rest of this year, the Apprentices are expected to continue supporting their Partner NGO through taking on remote working duties, seeking opportunities to raise awareness of their NGO’s work here in the UK, and assisting first year OGP Apprentices in their fundraising efforts.
